How To Keep Your Kitchen From Making You Fat!

Could your kitchen be sabotaging your diet? Well, according to Self magazine, there are several studies that claim your kitchen, not necessarily the food in it, could have a big affect your weight loss.  And since a complete kitchen makeover can be quite costly, there are some simple steps you can take to make your environment work better for you. Among them:

• Dim the Lights – Research shows that bright lights can increase stress levels, which in turn increase your appetite, causing you to eat more quickly. The faster you eat, the less likely you are to feel satisfied, since it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain it's full.

• Use Smaller Bowls and Spoons – Eating is very visual, and a small portion tends to look even smaller when put on big plate. Even experts have been known to be fooled. In one test, when given bigger bowls, food experts ate 31% more ice cream, and when given bigger spoons they ate 15% more.

• Leave Dinner Behind – Instead of serving food family style, which will likely make you eat more, portion out your serving before sitting down to the table, and leave the leftovers in the kitchen.

• Conceal your Leftovers – Leaving food over is great, but if you see it every time you open your fridge you're more likely to eat it. A better option is to either wrap up your leftovers in something other than clear plastic wrap, or hide them in a drawer in the fridge.
