There’s a town in the UK that weighs their mayor before and after their term!

The town is called High Wycombe and the “weighing of the Mayor,” has become a tradition. The ceremony began in 1678 and has continued on to this day. The reason for this? Citizens were angry because they believed public officials were stealing money they didn’t deserve and getting fat off of it.

Thus, they decided to publicly weigh the mayor at the end of their term to ensure they weren’t stealing any money form hard working citizens. Even today, once the mayor is weighed the Town Crier will announce “And no more!” if the Mayor has not gained weight or “And some more!” if they have, at which point the public boos their mayor.

Stream of conscience

The flap over pink slime continues.  Governor's from the states that rely on the beef industry take a tour to bring attention to  meat plants.  Apparently pink slime is not much different than bullion.  It utilizes everything that's leftover.  Reminds me of making pemican in 2nd grade with Mrs. Dempsey.  Seems like we took a bunch of everything from the kitchen counter ground it up and dried it.  The early version of jerkey.        Margo
