MONEY FOR NOTHING
If this guy isn’t studying economics, he should be. Jonathan Hood is using mail-in rebates to pay his grad school tuition! Hood first learned about the magic of mail-in rebates several years ago, when he discovered he could use them to get video games for cheap or even free. He started honing his skills, eventually amassing enough money through rebates to cover his $95-per-month cell phone bill. Recently, he used more than $2,500 in rebates to cover the majority of a semester’s tuition at Auburn University, where he’s getting his Ph.D. Hood trolls message boards and promo websites to find out where to get the best deals on tech gadgets and other items. When he finds something that comes with a free-with-rebate deal, he buys it, mails in the rebate, then usually sells the products online to make extra dough. Most of the rebate deals Hood uses are free-after-rebate offers, meaning he gets a full refund for the items he purchases. We’re not sure if this is even legal, but it sure is clever.
Do you use mail-in rebates? What’s the best deal you ever got? What about coupons? Do you think this guy is a genius? Or does this sound like a scam?
ROBINSON MASTERING ESPANOL FOR FUTURE SPANGLISH ALBUM
Motown legend Smokey Robinson says he’s “just in the embryo stages” of work on an upcoming “Spanglish” album. The legendary singer/songwriter/producer told Billboard, “I’ve been learning Spanish for about four or five years. I’m writing songs in Spanish now, so it will be a combination Spanish-English record. I’m going to do some traditional Latino songs, but there’s a bunch of original stuff, too.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer says he has no idea when the record will be ready for release.
